Mrs Catherine O'Kane
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Our wonderful community is resonating with the sounds and talents of the many students participating in our annual Culture Week and Arts Festival (Instrumental).
An appreciation for the performing arts has always been central to the All Hallows’ experience. Our Founding Sisters of Mercy used music and song to while away the long evenings aboard the Donald McKay as they travelled to bring the Catholic faith, the charism of Mercy and education to far-off Brisbane. A piano and harmonium were among the few cherished possessions they brought with them from Ireland. Our school also enjoys a rich history of the performing arts. In the 1880s, All Hallows’ Concert Hall hosted performances by local, national and international acts, attracting guests and dignitaries from the wider Brisbane community.
The tradition continues this week as our talented students participate in a variety of Culture Week activities including theatre sports, dance ensemble performances, a talent show and the Student vs Teacher debate. Meanwhile, our Arts Festival (Instrumental) allows our AHSisters to showcase their performance skills in front of their peers and external adjudicators during the first week of our annual internal eisteddfod (the second week is held in Term 3).
Thank you to our gifted and dedicated Culture staff who foster a love of performing arts among our students every day, and we wish all our AHSisters an enjoyable time sharing their talents with our community.

Giving Day
Preparations are underway for the annual All Hallows’ Giving Day which will take place on Thursday 6 June. This important event sees our community unite to raise awareness and money for the Catherine McAuley Bursary Fund which supports students to access an All Hallows’ education.
Giving Day enables us to bring to life Catherine McAuley’s vision and mission. It allows young women to access a faith-based, holistic education as a means of empowerment and creates a more just and compassionate world.
This year’s Giving Day theme is “Imagine” and we are aiming to raise funds to support two bursaries for Years 7 – 12.
You can support this important initiative by volunteering your time and energy in our Volunteer Hub on Giving Day.
We are also seeking Social Media Ambassadors to help us spread the message — please contact Ms Jo Lovett, Director of Community Relations and Development on dircommunityrelationsdevelopment@ahs.qld.edu.au if you are able to assist.
Mothers’ Network May Morning Tea
We conclude this week by honouring the mothers and mother figures in our lives at our much-loved Mothers’ Network May Morning Tea at the Royal International Convention Centre (RICC) on Friday, which is generously supported by our wonderful Mothers’ Network. I offer this prayer for all of the inspiring mothers and mother figures in our All Hallows’ School community:
God of Mercy,
We give you thanks for the gift of motherhood.
We celebrate the loving sacrifice of mothers,
who nurture and guide us in Your ways.
Bless them with joy, strength, and love to continue their selfless devotion.
May they feel deeply appreciated and honoured not just today, but every day.
Amen.
May God bless you and all of our All Hallows’ families in the coming week.
Mrs. Catherine O’Kane (Principal).
