Ms. Carolyn Liddy
Spring certainly arrived over the last few days with an abrupt burst of the Brisbane summer ahead of us! A new season refreshes us as we put aside our jeans, boots, and winter coats (which we only needed about four times during the past winter) and look forward to longer days, maybe some visits to the beach and the wonderful taste of our first mango or peach of the summer.
This can be a demanding week for many of our students. The final weeks of term bring with them the challenge of assessments, with students being asked to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they have mastered throughout the term, and for our Year 11s in many cases throughout the past three terms. I am confident that our students will encourage one another to find the motivation across the coming days to push forward and perform to the best of their ability.
Let’s embrace and enjoy this season of growth, both in nature and in our school community, as we continue to support one another in the final weeks of Term 3.
Sport
Our netball teams braved the heat last Saturday at Downey Park with great performances by all. After much deliberation, some of the afternoon games were postponed to this coming Saturday due to the intense heat on the courts. We celebrate the months of hard work and determination of all our netball teams. Our players have demonstrated exceptional teamwork, resilience, and commitment throughout the season, and we look forward to supporting those teams who are playing this Saturday.
Our touch football teams enjoyed a fabulous day at the annual AHS Touch Football Carnival at Tennyson last Sunday. This event is a cornerstone of the AHS touch season, providing a chance to showcase the countless hours spent refining skills, drills, and teamwork. Beyond the competition, it's the camaraderie and fair play that truly capture the essence of touch football at our school.
We thank our Head of Sport, Mr. Simmons-Bliss, Touch Football Coordinator, Mr. Jordan Dart, and all our Sports Office staff, coaches, team managers, Touch Football Parent Support Group, and supporters. Your dedication and tireless efforts have been instrumental in guiding our teams to success.
We wish everyone involved in sport this weekend the very best of luck and hope they have an enjoyable time.
Riverfire Sundowner
Our community enjoyed a wonderful evening of friendship, food and fireworks at our P&F Riverfire Sundowner Supper on the Terrace on Saturday evening. This was a fantastic initiative from our Parents and Friends Association and I’m sure everyone would agree that our own Terrace steps provided the perfect position for viewing the fireworks.
A big thank you to our always-supportive Parents & Friends Association and to Ms. Kate Gilmore, our Community Relations Manager, for their organisation and vision for this event. Your hard work and dedication in bringing our community together for this special event are truly appreciated. The evening was a wonderful success, and we are grateful for your continued support and commitment to our school.
Find Your Voice
We are looking forward to the upcoming Find Your Voice event next Monday, September 9, at 4pm in Claver Theatre.
The afternoon promises to be a truly inspiring experience as we welcome our very special guests: the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland, the Honourable Chief Justice Helen Bowskill; Dr. Amy Illidge, Class of 1994, medical doctor and co-founder and Director of Fight4Balance; and our All Hallows’ Principal Mrs. Catherine O'Kane, for a panel discussion facilitated by esteemed journalist and past All Hallows’ parent, Madonna King.
Together, we will explore how to find your voice in a world filled with noise and uncertainty and how we can all make a difference in our unique ways.
I encourage students and caregivers to join us for this special afternoon — it’s a chance to listen, learn, ask questions, and be inspired in your own journey. This is a free event, but for catering purposes, RSVP here and reserve your spot.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to our Debating Parent Support Group and our Parents and Friends Association for their incredible work organising this event. Our students are truly blessed to hear directly from such inspirational leaders and change-makers, and we are deeply grateful for your ongoing support.
Child Protection Week
This week is Child Protection Week and this year’s theme is “Every conversation matters”.
We take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the safety and wellbeing of all children in our community. Child protection is everyone's business. The responsibility lies with adults in keeping children safe from harm, and all members of society need to play a part in ensuring children are nurtured and safe.
From a practical perspective, listening to children and young people is the number one indicator in assisting their safety and wellbeing, and I encourage all members of our community to review the many useful resources available at the official Child Protection Week website at National Child Protection Week - NAPCAN
In recognition that every child has the right to be heard, protected, and cherished, I share the following prayer:
Loving God,
We ask for Your protection over all children.
Shield them from harm and guide them through life with Your light and love.
May every child know the warmth of Your embrace and the safety of Your care.
Grant us the wisdom to nurture and protect them,
The courage to defend their dignity,
And the strength to ensure their wellbeing.
Amen.
May God bless you and your family in the week ahead.
Ms. Carolyn Liddy (Deputy Principal).
